Anyone who grew up in the late '90s will be familiar with many of the beauty of Britney Spears that looks back over the years - from "Baby One More Time" piglets to frosted  Tak Eyeshadow and "Oops! 'S straight hair! ... I did it again" - but now what does the singer himself have to say about hair, makeup and skincare?  As she launches her new gender-neutral fragrance, Progressive, Vogue speaks with Spears about her iconic beauty personality, her skincare secrets, and the power of smell.

On fragrance

"I haven't added a fragrance in a very long time, and I wanted to do something different.  It is empowering, I like its name, it is basically no decision.  I like that you feel confident when you are wearing it and the message it sends.  I have a good group of people around me and I have children of my own, so I also want to ask them what they like so I can open my mind to different things and what people feel.  I am very proud of it and many of my friends and family love it too."

On her different beauty personals

"I like it when I change it and there's no specific character, you know?"  When it contains a group of different characters.  I think a character is boring and most people do it for videos and stuff.  So I think "Toxic" is one of my favorite look because it was a superhero and fantasy type of thing.  There were a lot of superheroes, who were like a superwoman.  So that's good.

On makeup

 “I like to experiment with different things.  I like to use mascara, but for a show I will blacken it.  I think it is fun to use different pale shades and pinks in eyeshadows.  I like a kind of gothic look in most situations but I think it would be better to use lighter colors to open your eyes.  "

On her ultimate beauty advice

"A little bit is enough. I don't really like a lot of makeup. I have to be a T-shirt kind of girl for my show, for presentation, but in my day-to-day life.  I have to wear so much makeup when I wear mascara and this is it. My favorite is better than sex. "

On fitness and health

“Every place I go, there is a beautiful gym - the place where I am really a fantastic gym - so I go to the gym, but then my show is such a workout in itself!  And I love the spa.  I have a really awesome place where I usually go to do everything.  "

On skincare

"I like toner.  Before applying my moisturizer I think of a good astringent toner.  I can't just apply moisturizer - I have breakouts because I work outside.  I don't really get zits or acne, I just get these red marks where it is, like, about to break out and it looks like a rash on my face.  So I like that I feel the zingy clean with astringent.  

Again I like La Mer - I think it's beautiful - but I didn't really find an astringent that goes with La Mer.  I usually use Elizabeth Arden Astringent, or I use Neutrogina ... I actually use a couple of different Astringents.  And I love playing with products.  "
